General State aid schemes

We have years of experience in organising, using and challenging general aid schemes within various sectors. Furthermore, we advise on the various possibilities of granting State aid for specific purposes, including within the context of the group block exemption and the sector-specific rules.

According to the State aid rules, State aid is basically prohibited. However, there are numerous modifications to this basic rule. The State aid rules provide for a multitude of possibilities of granting aid anyway. These possibilities apply across sectors, within specific sectors (minor and insignificant amounts), and in many other circumstances.

We have extensive experience in using all of those tools and regimes, and our advice is always based on a critical analysis determining in which regime a specific aid measure/scheme belongs. The identification of the proper set of rules and the subsequent structuring of the aid element make the State aid process considerably smoother, and secure the necessary robustness of the aid granted. Furthermore, we are highly experienced in using the State aid group block exemption  and the de minimis notice.

Finally, we have vast experience with the practical handling of aid schemes, including notification.
